WHY ARE WE RAISING CAPITAL FOR SHERIDAN?

The A. G. Hutchinson Home (now the A. G. Hutchinson Wing) was established on the clinical model that was current in the 1970's, which was 'state of the art' at the time.

The rooms in this wing comprise:
     - Two x 4 bed rooms with no door to close
     - Four x 2 bed rooms with no door to close
     - One x 1 bed room with a door

Shared rooms are suitable for single gender occupants, which can result in equity issues when a bed becomes available.

The bathrooms in this wing comprise:
     - 1 x shared by 5 residents of mixed gender
     - 1 x shared by 5 residents of one gender
     - 1 x shared by 2 residents of one gender

There is currently inadequate ventilation in bathrooms causing both seam and heat to be a problem.

The bathrools are too small to allow for bath trolleys, specialised shower chairs and everyday equipment to be used.  The newer and specialised equipment provides a higher level of comfort for residents, but is too big for the old bathrooms.

The air conditioning unit in the Hutchinson Wing is old and not always effective.

The current nurse call system is intrusive to many residents at night due to loudness.

YOUR EXPECTATIONS
If you needed a high level of care as you grow older, you would expect Sheridan to be as 'home-like' as possible.  After all, this would be your home.  You would expect to be able to bring some of your own personal belongings so it FEELS like your home.  You would expect to be able to enjoy time with your visitors in your own special area.  You would expect to have privacy and the ability to maintain your dignity, while you received your special care.  None of this is possible in shared bedrooms, without doors.  We want to meet your expectations in all areas of Sheridan.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We don't expect to get much Government assistance for this project, although we will be pursuing every avenue.
We are applying to Philanthropic Trusts, but in this economic climate they have reduced capacity to give.

YOUR GIFT/PLEDGE CAN HELP US ACHIEVE OUR TARGET OF $2.3million.
