'Sheridan' is a top 3 finalist in State Aged Care Awards
ACCV announced that they have received an overwhelming number of outsanding nominations for the ACCV State Awards for Excellence (in residential aged care).  The ACCV panel of judges selected our own 'Sheridan' as a top three finalist for the Organisation Award.

Sheridan Appeal Tops $1.5million

Recent contributions from the local community have seen the KDHS Appeal for capital funding to redevelop the final stage of Sheridan now reach a pledge total exceeding $1.5million!!

 Elm Tree removal necessary
The elm tree which has become emblematic of KDHS will be removed.
KDHS CEO, Neil Cowen said "the tree at the front of the Community Health building posed a risk to the safety of the community."

A.G. Hutchinson wing (of Sheridan) - clinical or residential?
The A.G. Hutchinson home (now a wing of Sheridan) was state of the art when it was first built in the 1970's.  But it was based on the 'Clinical' model of care, which has now been replaced with the 'Residential' model of care.
A capital appeal is in progress to raise $2.3 million to remodel this historical wing to provide the best care for residents.

Improved System for Payment of Fees at Community Health Kyabram, Stanhope and Tongala
Following requests from Community Health clients, commencing January 5th 2009 clients will be able to pay cash at Community Health reception at the Kyabram, Stanhope and Tongala locations.  There will be NO INCREASE TO FEES.

KDHS wins National Stroke Foundation-Strokesafe award
The Community Health service provided for Tongala residents has certainly been put on the map "nationally" with the recent announcement that Community Health Tongala, which is part of Kyabram & District Health Services, won the General Practice / Community Health section of the National Stroke Foundation Strokesafe award.

Major Boost for Sheridan Appeal
An outstanding pledge of $150,000 from a highly respected Kyabram family toward the Sheridan Redevelopment Appeal has lifted the total amount now raised to in excess of $1,250,000 - more than half the total required to complete the project.

Banking on Community support ....
Popular manager of the local Kyabram ANZ Bank, Mr. Kevin Livingston has again shown his support for the local community.  Through Kevin's initiatives, the ANZ Bank has provided a most impressive and beautifully presented Christmas hamper to be awarded to the 'best-themed' entry in the second annual "Great Hospital Bed Race."

Fran Thorn, Secretary of DHS, to speak at KDHS Annual General Meeting
Fran Thorn, Secretary of the Department of Human Services, will speak on "Future Directions of Aged Care in Rural Victoria" at the Annual General Meeting of Kyabram & District Health Services.
The AGM will be held at 7.45pm on Monday 10th November in the Pat Hayex Centre, Warramunda Drive, Kyabram, with supper provided.

Scholarship for Division 2 nurses - 15th August 2008
The Board of KDHS voted to implement ongoing scholarships for Division 2 nurses employed at KDHS, who wish to go on to further study and become registered Division 1 nurses. Click here to read more.


Youth Worker - 5th August 2008
The Board of KDHS has decided to extend the tenure of our Youth Worker, Mr. Peter Minchin, for an additional six months to allow further time to secure ongoing recurrent funding.

Government policy for 2008/2009 will require KDHS to overcome $600,000 worth of additional expenditure to avoid financial penalty.

Type 2 Diabetes often runs in the family - 14th July 2008
Diabetes Australia has launched a new campaign to mark the start of National Diabetes Week 2008.  The campaign will focus on family history and being overweight or obese as key risk factors in the development of Type 2 Diabetes.

KDHS addresses oral health problems of those in residential care - 1st July 2008
Sheridan (KDHS' Aged Care facility) is at the forefront of the development of a best practice model for oral health care that is expected to result in benefits for all people who reside in aged care facilities.  It is the sole Victorian agency in a consortium led by the south Australian Dental Service.

Community Health Building Nears Completion
The Community Health building at Kyabram & District Health Services is expected to be completed by 12th March...with the Official Opening to be held during Youth Week, between 5th and 13th April (the day and time to be determined).

Nurse Christine Hangan was the first to receive the Anne Ryall Nursing Award.

New Board member for KDHS (24.01.2008)
Board President, Mr. Doug Crow, said "We welcome John (Burrows) to the Board and look forward to working with him in our endeavor to continue to provide the community with a first class health service."

2007
KDHS is providing 'no gap' for Private Patients (12.2007)
CEO, Dr. Neil Cowen said "... to make it easy for our patients tohelp us financially, we are covering the cost of their upfront deductible payment.  That way it will cost them nothing...(to use their private health insurance)'.

From Good to Great in Obstetrics in Kyabram 
Kyabram's GP Obstetricians and the midwives of Kyabram & District Health Services are going from Good to Great in the service they provide for pregnant women.

New Interferential Machine for Physiotherapy Department (5.07.07)

Kyabram & District Health Services helps patients, visitors and staff go totally Smoke Free.

Community Health Stanhope (03.07)
After consultation with the Kyabram Regional Clinic (KRC) it has been decided for Stanhope KRC patients to contact Kyabram directly for Stanhope Appointments, rather than making them at the Community Health Service in Stanhope.  
 
Patient Satisfaction Survey (9.03.07)
Kyabram & District Health Services hospital achieves the best patient satisfaction outcome Statewide in Hospitals of the same size.  
 
Kyabram Community Health Services (8.03.07) 
Planning is well underway for Stage 1 of the new Community Health Building to be built in Kyabram next to the Kyabram Regional Clinic in Fenaughty Street.  
 
Tongala Community Health Services (03.07)
The Department of Human Services has contributed funding to expand Community Health Services at Tongala in the form of a Community Health Nurse and Community Health Receptionist. 
 
Sheridan Building Works (5.02.07)

The much anticipated and exciting Stage 3 addition to the development of the Sheridan Aged Care Facility is currently well under way at the Kyabram Hospital.  


2006 
Aged Care Accreditation (25.10.06)

Kyabram’s Aged Care Facility; Sheridan has received a resounding endorsement, attaining a perfect score in the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.

  
New Building Works (21.07.06)
The Board of Kyabram District Health Services has announced a $2.8 million capital works programme for 2007. Stage 3 of the Sheridan Aged Care Facility will be completed in early 2007. 
 
Ladies Aux AGM (21.07.06)
At the 47th Annual General Meeting of the Kyabram Hospital Ladies Auxiliary two well deserving members were awarded life membership. Shirley Hill and Heather Fehring have both worked tirelessly for the Auxiliary for over 40 years. 
 
Services (06.06)
Kyabram and District Health Services are now offering knee and hip replacement surgery by Dr Milan Pavlovic. 

KDHS Thanks their Volunteers (22.05.06)
Thursday was the day to recognise the people who give without asking for anything in return. Kyabram & District Health Volunteers Week with an afternoon tea to show our appreciation for the work of our many numbers of volunteers.

Environmentally Friendly Health Service (16.08.05) 
Chief Executive Officer, Dr Neil Cowen said yesterday “We must make sustainability a part of everything we plan, and make sustainability a part of everything we do, if we are to enhance and maintain our quality of life and protect our environment.
The Board of Kyabram and District Health Services have upgraded its risk management programme. The service has always been committed to providing quality of care and this includes the management of risk.
