ANTENATAL, BIRTHING/MIDWIFERY and POSTNATAL SERVICES

Midwifery led birthing service
We offer safe, accessible, woman-centred, pregnancy care and a birthing service to first time mums and those who have been there before.

The Community and Hospital Midwifery (CaHM) program is an inovative and progressive initiative provided by specially trained midwives, works collaboratively with Goublurn Valley Health (GVH) and has the support of hospital colleagues.

Benefits of the service

This is your pregnancy and you are central to decision making around your care.

Personal care from the CaHM Midwives ensures continuity of care.

There is a trusting and supportive relationship between your family and the carer.

You have less travel time away from your family, home and responsibilities.

Your birth will be in familiar surroundings.

GVH provide timely support immediately it is needed.

Limitations of the CaHM Program

If there is any chance your birth will not be low risk you will need to consult with, or be referred to, GVH and any stage during your pregnancy and post birth
       period.

In the event transfer is necessary, every effort will be made to ensure your transfer occurs in a timely manner.

There is no medical support on site at KDHS

Who can be involved in the CaHM Program?
All women need an appropriate level of care depending on their assessed needs.

For low risk pregnancies antenatal care, birth and postnatal care can be offered in Kyabram

For medium risk pregnances some antenatal care and postnatal care can occur in Kyabram.  Birth will not occur at KDHS.

For high risk pregnancies consultation with specialist services is required and these will be arranged depending on need.  Birth will not occur at KDHS.

We will endeavour to provide as much care within the community as is appropriate to your needs.

Assessment of your suitability to birth at KDHS occurs throughout your pregnancy.

If you need to be transferred to GVH during your labour, where possible your midwife will accompany you.
