Expression of Interest: First Nations Art for Kyabram District Health Service Education and Training Centre
Kyabram District Health Service (KDHS) is inviting Expressions of Interest from Local First Nations artists or artist groups to contribute original artworks for the new Education and Training Centre currently under development in Kyabram.
This is an opportunity to create meaningful works that reflect Aboriginal learning, knowledge systems, and connection to Country, with a strong focus on Yorta Yorta Country and the local Aboriginal community.
About the Project
The KDHS Education and Training Centre (ETC) will be a key facility supporting learning, development, and community connection for staff, patients, and the wider region. As part of this development, KDHS is commissioning three distinct art opportunities that will be integrated into the building’s design and interior spaces.
The project aims to ensure Aboriginal cultural presence is embedded in the Centre in a respectful and enduring way, guided by Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Protocols.
Art Opportunities
Selected artists may develop proposals for one or more of the following:
1. Building Façade Artwork (Laser-Cut Steel Design)
A large-scale exterior screen approximately 12 metres wide and 3.2 metres high. The artwork will be translated into a laser-cut rusted steel façade, designed to connect the building to local First Nations stories and Country.
2. Foyer Hanging Artwork (2m x 2m)
A significant interior piece for the foyer wall (approx. 2.5m x 2.7m). This work will commemorate the opening of the Centre and celebrate learning and knowledge. Artists may choose their preferred medium and format.
3. Plinth Display Object
A standalone sculptural work to be displayed on a plinth (approx. 800mm deep x 1200mm wide). A ceramic sculpture or emu egg form is encouraged, though artists are free to propose appropriate materials and concepts.
