Kyabram District Health Service is pleased to be bringing back its popular ‘Living Well with Diabetes Group’, an eight-week program designed to support people living with type 2 diabetes to better manage their health in a welcoming, supportive environment.

The program is led by KDHS Diabetes Educator and Physiotherapist Melissa Wade. The free program provides participants with practical tools, gentle exercise, and the opportunity to connect with others who are navigating similar health challenges. The group meets weekly, offering a combination of education sessions and shared discussion.

Across the eight weeks, participants explore a wide range of topics including understanding diabetes, physical activity, healthy eating, medications, foot care, sleep and stress management, and goal setting. The program focuses on small, achievable changes that can make a meaningful difference to everyday life.

Building on the success of previous diabetes group programs delivered in Stanhope, Melissa has seen first-hand the positive impact group programs can have on participants’ wellbeing.

“People became more active, lost some weight, and saw improvements in their blood sugar levels and blood pressure,” Melissa said.

With more than 20 years’ experience running chronic disease management groups, Melissa is passionate about creating a space where participants feel comfortable and supported.

By the end of the program, participants report feeling more informed, empowered, and confident in managing their diabetes day to day.

Melissa encourages anyone living with type 2 diabetes who is interested in improving their health to consider joining.

“All they need is a desire to make some small changes,” she said.

The current group is fully booked; however, additional diabetes groups will be offered throughout the year. Anyone interested is encouraged to call and join the waiting list.
