Cardiac Rehabilitation Secondary Prevention Program

The National Heart Foundation of Australia and World Health Organisation recommend all patients who have had heart surgery or heart blood vessel disease to attend an appropriate Cardiac Rehabilitation program.

Kyabram District Health Service hosts an 8-week educational program for people who have:

  • Coronary artery disease
  • Angina
  • Had a heart attack
  • Had angioplasty and/or stenting
  • Had heart surgery including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements, pacemakers or implanted cardiac defibrillators

When and where?

Cardiac Rehabilitation is held on Tuesdays at KDHS. You may start at any point in the program and follow on to complete the 8 sessions.

Commencement of this program is recommended within 2-3 weeks after discharge from hospital.

What does the program involve?

A light, modified exercise session will be conducted each week. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Your pulse and blood pressure will be checked before each exercise session and re-checked again while exercising.

Education sessions will be provided each week on the following topics:

  • Anatomy and risk factor management
  • Exercise
  • Medications
  • Psychological recovery
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Return to normal activities and work
  • Good nutrition for heart health parts 1 and 2
