Disability Liaison Officer Program
What we do
Disability Liaison Officers advocate for people with a disability within the health system.
We aim to improve access to health care and Disability Support Services by working with Healthcare Teams to ensure safe, accessible and inclusive care for people with disability.
Disability Liaison Officer can help you to access:
Health Services
Plan for a stay in hospital for any reason
Provide education and promote disability awareness throughout the Health Service
Support with blood tests
Access to sensory equipment if required
Referrals
Anyone can make a referral to our service including yourself, your family and carers.
You need to agree to the referral.
You may be referred by your disability providers, support coordinators or health professionals.

International Day of People with Disability
About our DLO, Sarah
Every year on 3 December, people around the world take part in International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). In Australia, it’s a day to promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. Click here for more information.
We’re excited to introduce Sarah, our Disability Liaison Officer here at KDHS. Sarah is here to support individuals with disability, their families, carers, and support networks to feel heard, understood, and safe when accessing healthcare. Within this role, Sarah not only is on site at Kyabram, but supports 4 other health services in the Murray region.
Sarah is a proud member of the Kyabram community, born at Kyabram Health and a lifelong local alongside her husband and their two daughters. After completing a Bachelor of Human Services and Master of Social Work, and a Certificate IV in Disability during the COVID lockdowns, Sarah has spent years working across both social work and disability sectors.
In her role as DLO, Sarah will help people navigate barriers to healthcare access, whether that means coordinating appointments, supporting communication needs, connecting with carers and support networks, working alongside the NDIS, or helping staff better understand individual needs.
"We can’t always change what is, but together, we can change how we get through it," says Sarah.
Sarah believes every person has the right to access healthcare, be listened to, and feel safe.
