Here is Isac’s volunteer story

Moving from Mozambique to Australia with my young family has been a major life change and an exciting new chapter for us. My wife is from Kyabram, so relocating here has given us the opportunity to reconnect with her hometown and become part of the local community.

Starting again in a new country has brought its challenges, but the support and encouragement of those around me have motivated me to continue pursuing my medical career in Australia.

After working as a General Practitioner in Mozambique for eight years, the opportunity to volunteer as a medical observer at Kyabram Health Service has been an important step in my journey. Observing Dr Vuthy and the medical team has helped me better understand the Australian healthcare system, including clinical practice, communication, teamwork and patient centred care.

I am very grateful for how welcoming and supportive everyone has been. The experience has allowed me to learn from local health professionals, become more familiar with the expectations of practising medicine in Australia, and gain a better understanding of how I can use my previous experience within the Australian health system.

My goal is to complete the necessary requirements for medical registration in Australia and, in the future, return to practising medicine. I hope to combine my previous experience with the knowledge I am gaining here and contribute positively to the health and wellbeing of the community.

I am very thankful to Kyabram Health Service and everyone who has supported me along the way. This volunteer experience has been an important step in building my future in Australia.
